Percy Jackson and the lightning thief – Rick Riordan

Being a teenager with dyslexia and ADHD is not easy. But when Percy discovers his father is Poseidon, a major Greek God, his life is turned upside down. To make matters worse Percy is convicted of stealing Zeus’ Lightning Bolt, his mother has been kidnapped by Hades and practically every monster in Greek Mythology is on his tail. The only safest haven for Percy is Camp Half-Blood. With help from best friend and satyr, Grover and daughter of Athena, Annabeth, Percy plunges into the adventure of a lifetime. Will he find the almighty Lightning Bolt and rescue his mother from the Underworld before Zeus declares war?

Percy Jackson and the lightning thief teaches readers to be brave and determined even in the toughest times. Rick Riordan has created a work of art through humour and excellent descriptions leaving readers wanting more. Riordan’s creativity shown throughout the book illustrates that he has placed much time and effort into research. I would definitely recommend this book to those who enjoy adventure and comedy all in one.

If you finish this book, do not fret! Check out the Percy Jackson and the Olympian series where Percy and his friends face plenty more adventures. Also, see the movie released on February 2nd 2010.
