Raising Steam by Terry Pratchett
I really enjoyed this book, but if you are not already a Pratchett fan, you should not start here. The book basically assumes you know who the protagonist, Moist von Lipwig, is. Many of the supporting characters are not fleshed out at all, and there are some payoffs for things set up in earlier novels. So much better to start at, say, Going Postal.
If you are already a fan, it’s excellent and contains many of the themes you expect from Pratchett. I’m not going to say who this is recommended for: you know who you are.
