Page to screen – are books better than movies?
“Never judge a book by its movie.”
“Movies – ruining the book since 1920.”
Do you agree? It’s a common event for book lovers to stumble out of movie theatres clutching their heads, crying “Nooooo!!! What… have… they… DONE???!!!”
For readers to weep when they hear who has been cast to play their favourite book character in a film adaptation.
For literary hipsters to turn up their nose and say, disparagingly, “I liked it before they made it into a movie.”
BUT….even if you don’t like an adaptation of your favourite book, the popularity of movies can’t be denied and they introduce a whole new group of fans to the book, so they must be good…. right?
If you’re on the Gold Coast and you have an opinion on which is better – the book or the movie – or you’d like to discuss what makes a good adaptation, or examples of painfully bad adaptations, join us for our next Discuss session – this Thursday 14 August, 6.30pm – 8pm at Robina Branch Library, 196 Robina Town Centre Drive, Robina.
