Grab your towel, your sunscreen and your book. We’re off to the beach for our next Readers’ season!
Between the 6th and the 22nd of March, visitors to and residents of the Gold Coast can enjoy an arts festival that celebrates the Australian love affair with the coast.
You can view the full program online, and get yourself organised to spend 17 fabulous days immersed in music, art, film, dance and drama.
And don’t forget the stories.
We’ll be discussing our favourite Bleach* reads here on book coasters throughout the festival, so join in the discussion and tell us what books you love to read on the beach.
Need some inspiration?
City Libraries are also hosting some exciting free events as part of the Festival:
Writing the waves
Join Australia’s pre-eminent surf writer, Tim Baker, for a writing workshop on surfing and story-telling. Author of best-selling biographies of world surfing champions Rabbit Bartholomew, Mick Fanning and Mark Occhilupo, Tim’s latest book is Century of Surf, a history of Australian surfing. Discover the hero’s journey at the heart of every surf session, and let the resonant power of the ocean flow into your writing.
Saturday 7 March, 10am – noon
Elanora Branch Library
What lies beneath
What lies beneath. The vasty deep is dark, unknowable and not far off-shore. If you look at the ocean and think of fantastical submarines and monstrous, writhing tentacles, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Unleash your spec fiction potential in a writing workshop with Trent Jamieson. Trent is the author of the Death Works and Nightbound Land series, and your intrepid guide to the dark world of weird fiction.
Thursday 12 March , 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Elanora Branch Library
Barefoot in the books
Kick off your shoes and slip between the pages of stories that evoke the beach, the ocean and the essence of an Australian coastal lifestyle.
Join authors, including Tim Baker, Sally Breen, Jesse Blackadder and Trent Jamieson, for readings, wine and cheese, and live music.
Friday 13 March, 5pm – 7pm
Coolangatta Branch Library
And if you love our great big bookshelf Mobile Library (and how could you not?) come and visit us at the Festival:
We will be at the Picnic in Your Patch sessions:
