2015 Reading Challenge or Judging a book by the title.
The pleasures of reading in the age of distraction by Alan Jacobs
I have to be honest I picked this up purely on the title. And I am glad I did. It is not a “what to read” book but more of a how to read. Alan Jacobs is a huge advocate of “reading at whim”. A whole chapter is dedicated to this delightful reason to read – as if we needed a reason to read. He encourages us to read widely, take the occasional risk on what you read next and to read without shame. Jacobs, a Professor of Literature at doesn’t believe in reading lists of the “Top 100 books you must read before you die” type, he doesn’t give recommendations of what to read he just thinks you should read.
