The Undertaker’s Daughter by Kate Mayfield
I loved this book. The gentle telling of Kate’s life growing up in a funeral home in a small Southern town of Kentucky in the late 1950’s and the 1960’s is told in the innocence of youth and into adulthood. Jubilee, Kentucky in the 1960s was God fearing, segregated and full of secrets, and where much was taken to the grave. For Kate, the memories of embalming fluids and shrouds would stay with her through the ruin of her father from his alcoholism and being unable to stay faithful would drive her to become a rebellious teen and finally wanting and needing to be far away from the controlling force of her mother. To learn more you need to read this wonderful true story and discover just where this life takes Kate.
