A Spool of Blue Thread
A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler.
Post by David.
Like a spool of thread, Anne Tyler winds her stories about a blue-eyed family through generations. It’s the story of a house and a home as much as anything else. Chronologically, the story begins with the building of a perfect house by the Whitshank patriarch Junior – a house which, incidentally, was built for another family. But Junior so loved the house that he always considered it his.
“A Spool of Blue Thread” is a truly delicious read. The characters jump off the page, and the reader becomes immersed in the secret histories of family members. The final pages offer the end piece of thread, solving a quiet mystery that really does shatter the underpinnings of the family.
