All the light we cannot see

Anthony Doerr has written this brilliant book which is the 2015 Pulitzer Prize Winner and is one of the best novels I have read.

This book is set in Hitler’s World War II Germany and France, and describes the life of a young blind Parisian girl and an orphaned German boy.  This could be depressing but really is not because of the wonderful way that Doerr depicts events, places, objects and people.  His ability to describe in detail how the other senses of someone who is blind develop to try to compensate for the lack of sight is uncanny and amazing.  This is a multi-layered work with characters who take you along with their story in a very compelling way and yet is extremely easy to read.

This book is available in hard copy and as an e-book on Overdrive, but is popular so will probably require a hold placed on either format.  It is absolutely worth the wait.
