The Awakening of Miss Prim

The Awakening of Miss Prim by Natalia Sanmartin Fenollera

Post by Kyla.

This book promised to tell the story of a literature loving young lady who is living out of step with the modern world and abandoning her depressing job in the city to live in a vintage rural utopia. It was a rainy long weekend and this appeared to be the perfect book to read with a few cups of tea and a cat purring somewhere in the back ground. The first page was opened in the happy expectation of following Miss Prim as she embarks on her adventure. It didn’t take long to realise that, to me at least, Prudencia Prim was a difficult character to connect with and the constant reference to literary works was distracting. It was difficult to relax into the story and while I continued to read it, primarily for the curiosity of learning a little more about the supporting characters, I suspect the novel would have been far more enjoyable and less puzzling in its original Spanish.
