The Wreckage by Michael Robotham is fifth in the Joseph O’Loughlin series of psychological thrillers by this talented Australian author.

Again featuring Vincent Ruiz the retired detective and more of a cameo by Jo O’Loughlin the clinical psychologist, this is rather different from the others in the series.  Rather this one features a journalist in Baghdad seeking to uncover what has happened to the billions of US dollars given for reconstruction.  International banking,  high finance, mysterious moving of huge quantities of cash and some very interesting history makes for a fascinating read.  Robotham’s background as an investigative journalist is showcased in this novel. It is a relief that the  seriously psychotic, evil, remorseless killer in this book does not target women specifically.

I enjoyed this book in the series far more than the others, but the suspense and thriller components are just as gripping.
