Curl up with a classic

A while ago, a friend of mine got a new job involving a commute by train. Making the most of all that time spent travelling, he worked his way through some of the classics – one or two of which he’d had to read at school, but the rest for the first time. He reckons it’s one of the best things he’s ever done. So if he can do it…

21st April is the 200th anniversary of Charlotte Brontë’s birth, so it seems timely to pick up a classic novel and rediscover some of the great authors of English (including Australian English, of course) literature. If you’re keen to read some of the best-loved stories ever told, we’ve compiled a readers’ resource guide listing some of the all-time great authors and their novels, with links direct to our library catalogue.

So many choices. Break out a Brontë? Dig out a Dickens? Any suggestions?
