The Bookstore is a wonderfully witty book set in the heart of Manhattan. It is the story of an English art history student Esme who finds herself finds herself pregnant and single all in the same week. Determined to finish her PHD and proceed with the pregnancy, Esme starts work at a small bookstore called The Owl. The Owl is staffed by colourful personalities and has some even more colourful customers. The store is struggling to survive yet manages to maintain its charm and quirkiness. It is this environment that sustains Esme and provides her with a safe haven during this difficult time. The Bookstore takes you on a literary journey that celebrates books, bookstores and readers, as well as taking you on an emotional journey with Esme that touches on issues and choices that affect us all.
