The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George
This is a wonderful novel about a floating bookshop on the Seine and its unusual proprietor Monsieur Jean Perdu. Jean has a unique way of selling books, as he sees himself as a Literary Apothecary and prescribes books based on the customers emotional status at that time. Whether it is heartbreak, depression, angst or joy, he can prescribe the appropriate book to read and rarely gets it wrong. The only heartbreak he can’t prescribe a literary remedy for is his own. It isn’t until the arrival of a new neighbour that he starts both a physical and emotional journey to heal himself. We follow his delightful travel down the Seine in his floating bookshop where he meets and gathers together a delightful cast of characters with varying literary needs and tastes. On this literary journey Jean slowly comes to grips with his past and heals his soul. This book is filled with warmth, love and wonderful literary conversation. If you believe in the power of books and words to change and shape your life then this book is a delight to read and is also a wonderful ode to the joy of reading.
