Jasper Jones: coming soon to the big screen

Often described as Australia’s ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, Craig Silvey’s Jasper Jones will soon hit our cinema screens. Set in the mid 1960s, it’s a coming of age tale set in a fictional mining town in Western Australia.

The book quickly became a bestseller when it was published in 2009, progressing to the stage and now to the big screen with actors Toni Collette and Hugo Weaving. Read our original review of the book by Joy.

Its main character, Charlie Bucktin, wants to be a writer and during the course of the story actually reads and is inspired by To Kill a Mockingbird.

If you’ve read it, what did you think of it? If you haven’t read it, we currently have lots of copies available as Hot Reads – and see all copies and formats here.

If you’re part of a book club, we also have Jasper Jones available as a book club kit complete with discussion questions here on Book Coasters. The story will no doubt be a hot topic of conversation when the film is released on 2 March.
