If you like a quirky story then this novel may be for you. The modern day protagonist

Veblen, named after the Norwegian economist and sharing his sentiment of anti-

consumerism, is a delightful character. I’ve very much enjoyed being inside her head.

The narrative follows her relationship with finance Paul, a neurologist whose

invention has led him to work for the Department of Defence. Add to this their

dysfunctional families and a clever squirrel and you have the ingredients for a story that is

both laugh-out- loud funny and sad, lighthearted and insightful.

An enjoyable, refreshing read. The appendices are a must for a final giggle.
